Karen is a lifelong resident of Yuma and is proud of the home she has built with her family. Her family roots have been firmly planted in this community for over 150 years. Karen Watts is a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School and Kofa High School. She became a registered nurse after graduating from the University of Arizona and later became a Nurse Practitioner though Arizona State University. Mike Mitchell is Karen's husband and is a local salesman for cars and RVs. Their children are Paul Watts, Michele Hunter, Antigone Wilson, and Dante Mitchell. Karen is the daughter of Camille Ortiz Watts and Paul E. Watts.
Karen's career has been dedicated to the community. She has served as a nurse in critical care for nine years. She also serves as a sexual assault nurse examiner, a provider of hospice care, and substance abuse treatment. Karen opened her own business, a family medicine clinic, in 2007 and is currently seeing patients in Yuma.
For the past four years, Karen has been a leader on the Yuma City Council both in leading discussion and serving as the 2020 Deputy Mayor.
As Mayor she will prioritize resources for first responders, utilize federal revenue for improvements to Yuma's wastewater and road infrastructure, and she would like to create a climate advisory committee to meet the demand of the rising climate crisis.
